Experience

GRAPHICS & LAYOUT:

• Over four years of experience creating graphics (web and print) and publications using Photoshop 5 and Quark Xpress 4.0. Created logos for companies and graphics for websites. Many book covers currently in print by Berkeley-based publisher Creative Arts Book Company.

ART:

• Attended life drawing and painting classes at The New Orleans Academy of Fine Art, and cartooning and animation classes through the Open Education Exchange in San Francisco.

PHOTOGRAPHY:

• Assisted veteran Life Magazine photographer and author Bradley Smith and freelanced. Framed, hung, and shipped vintage prints representing the entire history of photography at A Gallery for Fine Photography, in New Orleans. Attended a Jerry Eulsmann seminar on superimposition. Worked with and hosted Helmut Newton, Jerry Eulsmann, George Tice, Bradley Smith, and Herman Leonard in preparation for their gallery exhibitions.

COMPUTING:

• Two years experience as webmaster using Microsoft Frontpage 98 at the LSU DOCE Office of Independent Study. Created and maintained several hundred pages on a web site and intranet. Helped develop online, interactive correspondence courses and worked as an NT Server 4.0 Administrator.

• Two years experience with Dreamweaver 3 and Photoshop 5 (Mac and PC) at the Exquisite Corpse online literary journal. Worked closely with poet, writer, and NPR commentator Andrei Codrescu. Limited experience with Fireworks and Flash.

• Webmastered the LSU Creative Writing web site, the New Delta Review web site, the EGSA web site, the Exquisite Corpse website, and the Mark Spitzer official author site.

• Comfortable with Windows 3x, NT, 9x, 2000, and Macintosh environments, cross platform issues, basic use of DOS and UNIX, downloading and setting up programs, installing and configuring hardware, HTML, and Internet research.

WRITING:

• Wrote a regular computer and technology column for Tribe Magazine in New Orleans.

• Published short fiction in the Tulane Literary Magazine.

• Published in Arts Quarterly.

• Worked as an Editorial Assistant at The Exquisite Corpse online literary journal working closely with poet, writer, and NPR commentator Andrei Codrescu.

• Proofread correspondence courses for two years at the LSU DOCE Department of Independent Study.

TEACHING:

• Taught freshman English composition for a year at Louisiana State University.

PRINT-BASED PUBLISHING:

• Editorial Assistant on Thus Spake the Corpse (the Exquisite Corpse anthology) V.2, Black Sparrow Press, 2000.

TELEVISION:

• Worked as Assistant Producer (under Producer Tika Laudun) at Louisiana Public Broadcasting, the local PBS affiliate. Duties included research, negotiation of image licenses, and script consultation and revision.

CURATORIAL:

• Worked as Assistant Curator of Photography at the New Orleans Museum of Art during the Bellocq show.

• Lectured on photographer Ernest J. Bellocq, and appeared on the "Steppin' Out" television program in New Orleans.

TULANE UNIVERSITY:

• Graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in English.

• 3.97 GPA: English major. 3.7: cumulative GPA.

• Twice received the Barton Williams Benedict merit scholarship.

• Received the John Kennedy Toole writing scholarship.

• Sat on the Tulane Literary Society editorial board.

LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY:

• MFA in creative writing. Studied under Andrei Codrescu, Moira Crone, Jim Bennett, Mark Poirier, and Vance Bourjaily.

• Volunteered at the Louisiana State Museum and at WRBH Radio for the Blind and Print Handicapped, in New Orleans, as an on-air reader.
